Oslo

We made it to Oslo. Our first impression was the airport; Ken used the word stark. It reminded him of Spokane. We took the Flybussen from the airport to downtown. We caught the bus by seconds, and at this point Norway seems to be welcoming us Bakkens. The sun was starting to set and the sky was a beautiful yellow glow. When we got into Oslo, the bus driver told us to get a cab for the remaining distance. he told us not to move, but the taxis were accross the street. A nice man who had been watching the confused Americans, and ran accross the street to hail us a taxi. Ken who had been studying his phrase book from London to Oslo (glad he didn't wait until the last munute) said, 'Grazie!' He regrouped and then said, 'Takk'. Oh, well everyone speaks English and apparently a little Italian. Our taxi driver said that this had been an especially long and cold winter. And, it is definetly cold here. We had a great night's sleep, and slept like we were sleeping on a cloud because the comforters were so soft and warm.

Ken says my butt looks smaller when I am wearing a pack! I think he just wants me to be a pack mule. But just in case........Sally

Now we know where Mom inherited her cooking genes from the breakfast spread that we had theis morning. Some of the food was unrecognizable, but there was scrambled eggs and something that must have been sausage; I thought it was potatoes, but Sally was closer in her guess of meatballs. The food was pletiful, but we did walk if off today. We're back to the room to rest, and will update our adventures today later if we have the energy. Sally thinks she can speak Norwegian just because she knows how to raise her voice at the end of a sentence. Ya know?!?!!!.......Ken
