The End....really!
We are sitting at Heathrow Airport killing time. We flew in from Pisa yesterday afternoon. Our hotel that I got on priceline was at the airport and was the Sheraton. I got it for $75.00. Once again, as in London at the St. James Crown Plaza, we couldn't afford to eat there. Breakfast for each of us would have been $25.00. Since we get free internet and food in the business lounge at the airport, we packed up this morning and came here to eat and use the computer for free. It was $40 an hour to use the internet at the hotel! Our flight leaves from Terminal 4 at Heathrow, which is out in "no mans" land. We were going to take a cab from the hotel to make it easy, but decided to take the hoppa, a shuttle bus, then the Heathrow Express train. Why make things easy now! It went fine, we saved a lot of money and can finish our blogging and email. We have a bit of time to kill, but that's okay. We arrive in Seattle at 4:30pm tonight and Bellingham at 7:10pm.
Again, a few notes for my memory....our last dinner in Florence at Semidi Vino was THE BEST (outside of Maria's dinner on the farm). Ken tried the gnudi. They were giant gnocci stuffed with ricotta cheese and spinach topped with a light gorganzola sauce. I had giant gnocci stuffed with pecorino and ricotta cheese with an incredible pear sauce over it. Although it had rained most of the afternoon, it stopped long enough for us to have dinner outside. We thought it was another great bargain. Wine, water, antipasto, entrees, dessert and coffee for $53.00.
Our last morning in Florence, we shared a table in the breakfast room, as we did every morning there, with a couple from Toronto. It was pouring rain outside. Lucie said "Florence is sad to see you go". Although we are eager to come home, we felt the same way. Many of the hotels we stayed at and restaurants we ate at, we shared a table with others. It was a great way to meet a lot of wonderful people, hear about where they lived and all about where they have traveled. Our list of where we want to go next has become even longer!!
